In preparation for go-live year, the Student Sunrise team is launching a variety of Workday Student training resources designed to help students, faculty and staff get started with Workday Student.
“We want everyone to have resources at their fingertips as they start using the new system,” said Sunrise Training Lead Barry Martin. “By making resources available online within Workday or on the Workday@WashU website, we’re putting them as close as we can to where users will complete their tasks and processes.”
A variety of formats, online and in-person
Support resources will be available in several different formats online so they are easily accessible to students, faculty and staff and can be updated by the Sunrise training team as the system continues to evolve. Highly impacted groups will receive in-person instructor-led training coupled with a program of eLearning courses to complete.
Those using Workday this fall to set up Fall 2025 courses can learn more about available training and support resources on the Course & Section Manager webpage on the Student Sunrise website.
Workday@WashU website: Tutorials & reference guides
The Student Sunrise team is updating the Workday@WashU website, WashU’s primary source for help with Workday, with resources to help students, faculty and staff learn to use Workday Student functionality rolling out this academic year.
Located under the Workday Student tab, the new Workday Student section will include instructional resources such as tutorials that walk through tasks step-by-step, as well as reference guides that feature task instructions with visuals. Many tutorials and some reference guides include brief videos showing how to complete tasks in Workday.
The section’s bright orange landing page is a nod to the Workday and Student Sunrise Project brands and distinguishes the Workday Student section from the HCM/FIN area of the website. Different populations, like students, instructors and advisors, will have dedicated areas with training resources curated specifically for their needs. They can filter these resources by role or related tasks from the dropdown menu.
Getting Started content is available now for anyone interested, in addition to resources for course and section managers and the Office of the University Registrar, who will begin using Workday this month. Sections for students, instructors, advisors, and those who support registration processes will be available later this fall for anyone attending Mock enRoll to reference as they practice with the new system.
Workday Learning: eLearning courses
Faculty and staff can find relevant eLearning courses within Workday Learning, WashU’s new online learning management system. The courses step through key tasks and let users test their knowledge as they go to make sure they’re understanding the material. Courses are easy to find by navigating to the Learning app in Workday.
Instructor-led training: In-person learning
Select groups responsible for performing complex tasks in the new system will receive instructor-led training, either in-person or virually. These sessions will be led by members of WashU’s schools and academic units with experience in the roles (e.g., advisors will train other advisors) and who understand the tasks they’ll perform in the system.
Those who should attend instructor-led training will receive invitations to select a session that works for their schedule. They also will have an integrated program of eLearning courses to complete that builds upon the in-person content. Most instructor-led training will be held in Spring 2025 in preparation for the February go-live.

In-system support articles for students & advisors available in February
In addition to resources on the Workday@WashU website, students will have access to support articles within Workday to help them as they complete academic tasks like creating a saved schedule or registering for courses. Many articles have accompanying video demonstrations and include direct links to tasks and reports, meaning students can get help with many tasks without ever having to leave the system.
Starting in February, students can find support articles using the search bar, by browsing the articles category or by downloading and navigating to the Workday Help app. Advisors will also have access to student support articles so they can direct students to helpful resources or walk them through processes during advising appointments.
Mock enRoll: A hands-on system preview
Students, faculty and staff can get their hands on a preview copy of Workday Student during Mock enRoll this November. These sessions will be especially relevant for students and advisors because they can test out registration functionality in preparation for next spring when students will register for Fall 2025 courses in Workday. Attendees will also test available training materials and provide feedback so the Sunrise team can make adjustments before everyone begins using them.
Training updates to come
As we roll out Workday this academic year, Sunrise will continue to release and share training materials to prepare the WashU community for what they’ll need to do in the system. Those who will use Workday Student can expect communications from university leadership and the Student Sunrise project about training to complete and how to get started in the system.
“We’ll continue to update our training materials as things change,” said Martin. “Because Workday is a cloud-based system, the Workday we’ll all start off using will not be the same Workday we’ll be using two years from now, or even six months from now. Our resources will evolve with the system to support the community and help them perform their tasks and processes with confidence.”
