As a member of the WashU community, you have access to a variety of training and support resources to help you understand and use Workday Student. These resources are designed to guide you step-by-step through activities you’ll do in the system. They cover the basics, such as navigating and setting system preferences, to the essentials, such as performing academic tasks and producing reports.

It may take some time for you to feel comfortable using Workday Student. But fortunately, if you use Workday HR/Finance for tasks like choosing benefits, submitting expenses for reimbursement, or viewing your paycheck, you already know how Workday looks and feels. Together, Workday HR/Finance and Workday Student form one integrated system.

Accessing training

Many of our Workday Student training materials are online and readily accessible to students, faculty and staff on the Workday@WashU website.

Staff and faculty also have access to online eLearning courses on Workday Learning, WashU’s new learning management system. Select groups responsible for performing complex tasks will receive instructor-led training and an integrated program of eLearning courses to complete that builds upon the instructor-led content.

A variety of resources

We have created our training materials in several different formats to suit a wide range of learning styles and preferences. All are designed to help learners perform tasks and processes in the moment while they’re using the system.

Tutorials

Written step-by-step instructions to guide you through a particular task or process. Some tutorials include an accompanying video demonstration of the process. Tutorials are available on the Workday@WashU website for all students, faculty and staff.

Reference guides

A collection of related tutorials, screen captures and background information that a learner might need. Examples include a guide for students focused on registration or a guide for those who teach classes or advise students. Reference guides are available on the Workday@WashU website for all students, faculty and staff.

eLearning courses

Online and self-paced computer-based classes that guide staff and faculty through multiple topics within a specific function and include knowledge checks. Classes are organized into learning programs tailored to specific groups, such as course and section managers. Available on Workday Learning.

Instructor-led training

In-person training led by peer instructors for highly impacted groups responsible for performing complex tasks. Members of these groups will receive invitations in advance of sessions they’ll need to attend.

Training during roll-out

Starting this fall, we’ll share training materials with those expected to perform specific system tasks and processes before the relevant functionality is released in Workday.

During Mock EnRoll in November, instructors, advisors and staff involved in registration can preview training material and try out the system functionality they’ll begin using after the second go-live in Spring 2025.

Student-focused support

Students will also get to preview Workday Student at Mock enRoll. These events will give students an opportunity to practice registering for courses in preparation for next spring when they’ll use the new system to register for Fall 2025 courses.

In addition to resources on the Workday@WashU website, beginning in February, students will have access to support articles within Workday. They can use these articles while completing academic tasks like creating a saved schedule or registering for courses. Many articles have accompanying video demonstrations and include direct links to tasks and reports. This means that students can get help with many tasks without ever having to leave the system.

Advisors will also have access to student support articles so they can direct students to helpful resources or walk them through processes during advising appointments.

Office hours support

The Student Sunrise team will hold office hours to support members of groups who will begin using Workday Student at each go-live. Our first go-live group, Course & Section Managers, can find their office hours schedule on the Workday@WashU website. As we get closer to Go-Live 2 in February, we will communicate our office hours support plan to members of groups who will first enter the system at that time.
