You may be apprehensive about using and getting comfortable in a new system. That’s why our comprehensive training plan for advisors and those involved in advising cohort management includes a multitude of resources you can take at your own pace, along with instructor-led sessions.
Instructor-led training
There will be three instructor-led training offerings. One will be for faculty and academic advisors and another will be for supplemental and support advisors. The third is for people who will be involved in advising cohort management in Workday. If you currently assign students to advisors, or set people up as advisors in WebAdvising or another system, you are likely part of this third group.
This virtual Instructor-led Training (ILT) course covers how faculty and academic advisors can use Workday to support students throughout their academic journey at WashU. Advisors will learn how to navigate a student’s profile, which includes information about their program(s) of study, and how to analyze a student’s academic progress. Other topics include how to make notes, view notes from other advisors in a student’s support network, and how to send students messages. In this course, advisors also will learn how to view and lift registration holds, which is required by some schools.
Sessions will be offered from late January through early April 2025. Each session will be held virtually and last 2-3 hours with built-in practice time. All sessions are the same; you only need to attend one.
If you are a faculty or academic advisor and have another advisor role, like research advisor or progress advisor, you only need to attend this training, as it includes and expands upon the material covered in the supplemental and support advisor training.
This virtual Instructor-led Training (ILT) course covers how faculty and staff who advise and support students in related areas like research, scholar programs, athletics, and career planning can use Workday to collaborate and guide students during their time at WashU. Attendees will learn how to navigate a student’s profile, which includes information about their program(s) of study and academic progress. The course also covers how to make and view notes from other advisors in a student’s support network, and how to send students messages.
Sessions will be offered from early February to mid-April 2025. Each session will be approximately one hour and held virtually. All sessions are the same; you only need to attend one.
If you are also a faculty or academic advisor, you only need to attend that training, as it includes and expands upon the material covered in the training for supplemental and support advisors.
In Workday, students are connected to advisors through advising cohorts. This Instructor-Led Training (ILT) shows how to assign students and advisors to cohorts and manage those assignments. Participants will also learn how to use reports to find students and cohorts without an advisor.
Sessions will be offered from late January through mid-April. Each session will be two hours, including built-in practice time, and held in-person. All sessions are the same; you only need to attend one.
If you are also an advisor, you will receive two training invitations. Please register for both this training and your respective advisor training.
Invitations for instructor-led trainings will be sent in early December, with additional invitations sent after the holiday break. The first set of invitations will be based on Workday Student role assignments as of July 2024. Invitations sent in 2025 will reflect role assignment changes since July 2024, including those submitted during November.
eLearning
When you sign up for your instructor-led training, you’ll be prompted to complete the following eLearnings before you attend your session. If you already completed the eLearnings (as part of Mock enRoll) you won’t need to take them again but might choose to do so as a refresher.
- Navigating Workday Student (30 minutes)
- Reports in Workday Student (30 minutes)
After your instructor-led training, you may be asked to complete additional eLearnings to review what was covered during your session and to learn about related topics.
Tutorials and more
Step-by-step tutorials, videos and more are available on the Workday@WashU website. This will be your go-to source of information when you and your students begin using the system.
You and your advisees will also be able to search for student support articles inside Workday using the Help app. Additional details will be shared closer to February 2025.
