Instructor-led training & eLearning
There are three advising-related instructor-led training offerings. One will be for faculty and academic advisors and another will be for supplemental and support advisors. The third is for people who will be involved in advising cohort management in Workday. If you currently assign students to advisors, or set people up as advisors in WebAdvising or another system, you are likely part of this third group.
Only individuals invited to register (based on their assigned security access) will be able to use the registration links below.
If you have any questions about the instructor-led training sessions or eLearning courses, or need help registering or accessing courses, email WorkdayStudentTraining@wustl.edu.
Advising for faculty and academic advisors
Instructor-led training
Who: Only faculty and staff with an assigned role of faculty or academic advisor in Workday can register. If you are a faculty or academic advisor and have a supplemental or support advisor role, like research advisor or progress advisor, you only need to attend this training, as it includes and expands upon the material covered in the supplemental and support training.
When: These virtual sessions run Jan. 22 through April 9, 2025, and last three hours, which includes practice time at the end. All sessions are the same; you only need to attend one.
Description: This virtual instructor-led training course covers how faculty and academic advisors can use Workday to support students throughout their academic journey at WashU. Advisors will learn how to navigate a student’s profile, which includes information about their program(s) of study, and how to analyze a student’s academic progress. Other topics include how to make notes, view notes from other advisors in a student’s support network, and how to send students messages. In this course, advisors also will learn how to view and lift registration holds, which is required by some schools.
During these sessions, you can ask questions and get answers in real-time. You will also get access to a training environment where you can practice what you learn.
Registration for each session will close three days in advance to ensure we can properly set up attendee access in our training environment. Participants must log into Zoom individually. Your individual log in is how we will report your attendance to your school/unit.*
*If you are unable to attend one of the available instructor-led training sessions, you can take the Advising for Faculty and Academic Advisors eLearning instead; see below.
eLearning courses
These are online, self-paced courses, estimated to take about 30 minutes each to complete. To access all of the eLearning courses for faculty and academic advisors, you must register for your learning program in Workday. Courses in this program include:
- Navigating Workday Student & Reports in Workday Student, which should be taken first.
- Advising for Faculty and Academic Advisors, which covers the same material as the instructor-led training and can be taken in its place or as a review for those who attend the instructor-led training.
- Several additional courses, on topics like academic plans, registration, waitlists, etc.
