Why is the university making this system change?

The current systems used for student administration, like WebSTAC, were developed in-house 30+ years ago on mid-1990s technology that is difficult to maintain and no longer meets the university’s needs.

All student data is currently stored on multiple servers, physically, on campus. Workday stores information in the cloud, making data more secure and allowing for more comprehensive data analytics to assess how to best serve students.

Our current systems require a significant number of manual processes, including to verify whether a student has met graduation requirements, whether a student is eligible to enroll in a class, or determining what tuition to charge a student. Having fewer manual processes in Workday reduces the risk of error, in addition to eliminating some manual work for faculty and staff.
