Students will register in Workday for the first time April 15-18. If you are an advisor, instructor, program coordinator, or support students in another way, students may come to you with questions.
Below are resources you can share with students to help support them through the registration process. Additional resources are available for advisors and instructors.
Changes to the registration process
The registration process in Workday will be different from what students are accustomed to in WebSTAC. Workday will systematically enforce some registration policies, such as eligibility requirements (e.g. prerequisite completion, major/minor, class standing, etc.) How students search and waitlist for classes will be different, as well. The Student Sunrise website details these and other changes to help prepare students for what they will experience in Workday.
Self-help training & support
Students can find step-by-step tutorials, guides and videos to help them navigate Workday and plan for registration on the Workday@WashU website. Help articles are also available for students within Workday.
Registration planning checklist & troubleshooting tips
The Student Sunrise team has been sharing registration planning checklists, training resources, and other tips and reminders with students since February. These communications are available on the Sunrise website Student Email Archive.
Office hours
Students can get help from a member of the Sunrise team in person or virtually at office hours. In addition to regularly scheduled office hours, evening office hours will be available April 8 & 9 the week before registration. Early morning office hours will be available April 15-18 to support students when registration appointments open. Find the full office hours schedule on the Workday@WashU website.
Other ways to get help
Students can also get help by submitting a help request or calling 314-935-WDAY (9329).
For Advisors
As an advisor, you have access to the following resources to help yourself and your students begin using Workday. We are emailing students directly, but our student advisory group said they’re more likely to open your emails than ours. Thank you in advance for helping to deliver key messages.
Available resources:
- Getting Started flyers to print and distribute, or to share digitally as an attachment
- Email templates for you to send to your advisees, or to use as talking points in meetings
- Getting Started flyer for advisors, which includes reminders to give students

For Instructors
Arts & Sciences, McKelvey & Sam Fox only
Be sure you are monitoring your email for student eligibility override requests. As a reminder, a student can request an override to register for a course section for which they are not currently eligible. The request must be approved before the student can register for that section. Prompt review of eligibility override requests will help students better plan for registration and give them a smoother experience during their registration appointment.
Follow these instructions on how to approve or deny students’ requests. For more information, see the Feb. 25 announcement from Vice Provosts Jen Smith and Vijay Ramani on enforcement of eligibility requirements.
